Class Experience

The students will be taught how to write a persuasive paragraph. All of the teaching material will be scaffolded, so the learning will be broken down into chunks. A graphic organizer will be utilized to incorporate each component. First, the students will learn the definition of persuade. Next, we will choose a topic. The example that I will model will be, "Everyone should have a pet." As a class, we will brainstorm ideas to support the topic. Those ideas will be used to create a topic sentence, three supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence. We will discuss correct capitalization, punctuation, and using transitional words. At the conclusion of the class, the students will have written a minimum of one well-written paragraph. I will adjust the lesson based on the needs of the learners.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Does your child struggle to find the right words when speaking or writing? Do you know that they can do it, but they become easily overwhelmed? I completely understand, and I am here to help. My classes are designed to build confidence for all learners. I draw from personal connections and experiences to hone in on their strengths. Through the use of brainstorming, webs, and chunking material, children learn to organize their thoughts and ideas to become confident speakers and writers.

My educational background includes: Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, Master's in Special Education, and Master's in Educational Administration. I also have eight years of classroom teaching experience and three years of online ESL teaching experience. I enjoy making learning fun through the use of games, songs, and rhymes. I understand that each child is unique, so I guide my instruction based on the needs of the learner.

Outside of my classroom, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. My goal, while teaching with Outschool, is to provide children with the education that I want for my own children: nurturing, supportive, effective, and fun! I look forward to working with your child!
