Fairy tales! Heroes and villains! Dragons and princesses! Bring some magic into your summer and let's explore the magical word of fairy tales. We will read classic fairy tales together in class and apply the Literary Elements of plot, setting, characters, and theme to the specialized method of fairy tale writing. Fables and fairy tales teach life lessons, and guess what? The lesson learned is the theme. As we read the fairy tales we will discuss the story elements and keep in mind how the theme drives the story and makes a great fairy tale. Then, we will apply the 6 step method of creating a fairy tale and write a great one as a group. This is a great way to learn because we are all working together as a group, so no pressure! So, what's my teaching style? I'm very supportive and I create a warm atmosphere where learners can express their ideas. I don't lecture! My students are engaged with me in the learning process. I have taught reading comprehension and writing to so many students in public school over the years, and by far writing fairy tales is always a favorite! I emphasize team work with my students to create an atmosphere of friendship. Since this is a highly interactive class, turn-taking is emphasized so each student's contribution to our discussions can be valued and heard. There is no homework with this class, all the work is done in class with Teacher Barbara. See you in class!
