Class Experience

Research shows that social media apps such as 'Instagram"  affects one in three teen girls. It makes teens have body image concerns and can cause worse body image issues in teen girls compared to teens not using the social media platform. Since most teens will use  use social media I think that is important to begin to learn how to use social media platforms for the good in them. I do believe that social media is a powerful tool, I think that when teen are allowed to use platforms it is impactful for them to learner the proper strategies. 


The goal of this course is use the platform in a healthy way. I will teach strategies that relate to using social media in a healthy way and deal with the comparison effects that the brain automatically forms by scrolling and seeing the highlight reel of someones else life. 

As a therapist, I have taught hundreds of young people about mental health and self-care. The structure of this class will be as follows: 
60-70% - Lesson 
30-40% - Questions/ Discussion/ Wrap- up 

Topics that will be covered are: 
How social medial can impact your mental health
Healthy habits for social media use 
Strategies to boost  your self-esteem as a teen girl.

As a mental health professional and educator, my goal of each class is to simply teach on these topics in ways that will be engaging to the learner. These class will offer techniques for using social media in a helpful way and how to boost your self esteem and confidence as a teen girl. 

I know that this class could be transformative for each learner. Parents that I have worked with in the past have mentioned how transformative the work I have completed with their children was for them. The work necessary to continue to grow will go far beyond these classes, this class can be viewed as the first step in building a tool- kit that they can take with them throughout the rest of their lives. 

This course is designed to be a comfortable safe space that will be used to promote a healthy thoughts in each learner.  I encourage each girl to bring their favorite tea, drink, or snack to create a more relaxed feel. My goal is to teach teen girls about mental health and allow them to leave feeling inspired and encouraged about their future.

My educational background is in Mental Health Counseling (M.S). As I therapist, I have 8 years of experience working with teen girls as it pertains to mental health strategies and tools. Additionally, I have completed child development and brain development research and worked as a certified educator. I am immensely passionate about teaching youth about mental health and have completed years doing so as a therapist and educator. Due to my background and expertise I will be able to teach this topic from a developmentally appropriate point of view. I have spent years creating age appropriate mental health content for teens and have a true passion for the field of mental health.
