Class

What's included

1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Due to the fact that this is one class, students will not be assigned any homework but they will be assigned time to complete the work during class. If they do not complete the work, this will be due the following week via the platform. For extra practice, I give optional assignments.
Assessment
Students will get a chance to be spotlighted and they can share their work. If they do not want to share their work, they will need to send their work to the teacher. Depending on how much time is left, and the number of students in the class, everyone will probably get a chance to share their work.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Students will learn using a computer and interface. They will interact with the teacher through the outschool interface and can ask questions and message the teacher. I will be teaching your students how to organize their writing in order to form strong paragraphs. We will cover will ten types of graphic organizers: some examples are Star Diagrams, and Tree diagram.
I will be teaching using a powerpoint and also give students plenty of time to practice their new skill.

My teaching style revolves around the students. I use a question and answer format. I ask guided questions and encourage students to come to the right answers through direct guided questions.

Students should be able to write full paragraphs in order to take this class.

The class time/ structure is broken down into the following
1. 5 minute free writing time (whatever students choose)
2. 15-20 minutes lesson time (Powerpoint of the six types of graphic organizers)
3. 10 minute practice time (turn 5 minute writing time into the 4 types of graphic organizers)
4. 10 minutes will be used for review which includes any last minute questions.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm an elementary and secondary teacher who also has experience teaching adults who are learning to speak the English language. I teach English, Spanish, and math to elementary students. I also teach US history and English to 6-12 graders.

I received my BA in Secondary English and Spanish (as a minor) and a teaching certificate in K-8th self-contained classroom in Grand Rapids MI. I had my first real teaching experience at an international school in the Dominican Republic.

I believe all students have the potential to acquire knowledge but many struggle to find the key. My calm, loving and peaceful demeanor helps students feel comfortable, accepted, and encouraged. My goals are to empower students as they grow, mature and learn about their strengths and weaknesses by using a variety of differentiated instruction while I teach different academic subjects.

In my free time I love to bike ride with my Border Collie, make jewelry, play the piano and the guitar. I am in the process of learning how to play the Ukulele.
