I have 20+ years experience, as a music teacher. I have taught piano, electric keyboard, guitar, and general music classes, in both the classroom and private settings. I was head of the music department at a private high school in Maryland. I taught private piano and guitar lessons at a guitar shop, for 5 years, in addition to my own private students in my studio. I have a bachelor's degree in music education, from Towson University, plus graduate studies in music education.
Practice tuning with the method that is best for you and your guitar. Tuning takes some practice, so becoming more relaxed while focused on the task is important.
Guitar tuna app on a second device

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Informal assessment
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
If it's possible for you, I would like the student to have a second device ( one that is not signed into zoom) with the GuitarTuna app open ( or the online tuner version of GuitarTuna)
There is no membership or sign - in needed.
*If this is not possible , then I can share the app on my screen , but it will not pick up their guitar strings from the screen share.
If they are able to have it open themselves , they will see the app responding to their strings, and it will tell then whether their string is "too high" or "too low" .
If they are unable to have the guitar tuna open, it's ok . I can tune it by ear for them.
**You will need to "enable original sound" on zoom, so I can hear the strings well enough. A laptop or PC device is best for this. (The tablets are all different from each other, as far as how to enable original sound. )
I can show the student , on the laptop, how to enable original sound. It only takes a minute.
The Zoom default sound blocks out background noise , and it tends to blur out the guitar sounds. The "original sound" fixes that issue.

Guitar Tuna app or GuitarTuna online tuner that is being used by by the student on a device that is separate from the device they are signed into zoom on.
