This class is based around the stories by Cressida Cowell of an unlikely Viking hero named Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. We will sharpen critical thinking skills while discussing the book, complete creative writing assignments about dragons, learn about Viking history, take part in map reading activities and learn strategies for reading comprehension. DAY 1: Chapters 1-5 -Literature circle group with discussion questions; talk about vocabulary -Introduce the one-sentence summary for each...
-Students will improve comprehension and visualization skills -Students will better understand geographical terms and sharpen their map reading skills -Students will learn about the ancient Norse culture
The students will be assigned an optional interactive notebook to complete outside of class.
Students should have a copy of the first How to Train Your Dragon novel written and illustrated by Cressida Cowell.
3 hours 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
