Are you interested in being an exchange student? This class will introduce you to study abroad programs. We will discuss how to choose a program, what your options are in countries and programs, and how to be successful. We will explore culture shock, how to adapt to a new place, and best practices to be successful in your host home and host country. We will also talk about scholarship opportunities. I have 17 years of experience with exchange programs in various countries as I have been an exchange student myself (UK), hosted students (Germany, Denmark, South Korea), sent my own students on exchanges (France, South Korea), and trained both incoming and outgoing exchange students as a coordinator from a large variety of countries around the world. I would love to share our experiences and successes with you to encourage you on this adventure. I am not promoting any particular program, but will give suggestions for the types of characteristics to look for in a program when you are selecting.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about cultural adaptation and how to be successful as an exchange student.
