Class Experience
Social media, including Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, Skype, and all the others are enticing to young people because they can interact with people all over the world. They are young and inexperienced enough to trust strangers on the internet that seem to be nice. The problem is that it is extremely easy for predators to make fake social media profiles. I am recommending that parents view the information that I present with their kids and then discuss them in detail, so you can make a pact with them to be safe online. The homework will consist of watching entertaining videos and reading actual stories that describe possible scary scenarios. None of them are gory, but make the point quite clear that social media is not a place to trust strangers, rely on for making choices, watch everything, or share everything with. Week One: Predators Targeting Children and Teens on Social Media Week Two: Cyberbullying Week Three: Inappropriate and Harmful Content Week Four: Sharing Images and Photos That Kids Will Regret These lessons could save your child's life! I will be writing to your child often using the Outschool chat room about the scenarios in the videos and articles so we can discuss the top safety tips that they are learning. Each week, I will ask that your child respond to me about the safety tips presented, so I can assess his or her understanding and clarify, if needed. Flexible schedule classes are great for busy people - like you!

Parental Guidance
The content contains scenarios of kids responding to strangers, and even agreeing to meet them offline. Some kids make bad choices which results in bad things happening. One video infers that the abducted child was left at a river, by showing her hat lying on the river bank.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a public school teacher. I have taught several different grades. I am the computer lab and writing teacher at our school now. One of the most important lesson series I teach is internet safety. The kids always enjoy it, but more importantly, they learn how to use the internet safely.
