This is a one-week summer camp course focused on solving algebraic equations with two variables. Class time will be instruction, examples, practice, Q&A, and lots of support and encouragement. Students will interact with the Teacher and each other during live class time, and will be assigned practice problems to do on their own. The topics covered will be: * Solving by the graphing method * Solving by the substitution method * Solving by the elimination method * How to identify which method...
Students will be able to identify and solve two-variable algebraic equations by identifying which of the three methods is most suitable to use, and then applying that to the problem. Learners will also analyze the steps to determine their process for solving, and will work on practice problems both in class and on their own toward mastery.
In addition to being a California credentialed teacher, I have tutored algebra students for 20 years. There are many ways to do math, but I believe in doing it the easy way. I've developed simple strategies for this. I like to engage with my students and I encourage them to think of me more as a private tutor who is there to support them and make sure they "get it."
Students will practice problems toward mastery. Okay to email teacher with questions.
Notebook for notes and practice problems Graph paper Pencil Colored pencils Ruler or other straightedge Calculator okay
The final day will include a review of the concepts, Q&A, and learners will be provided with a Cheat Sheet to keep for reference when they return to classes.
3 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
