Class Experience

This class teaches students how to solve a Rubik's Cube using algorithms. The first class will deal mainly with the basics of how the cube works and the rules and methods we will use later in the class. The algorithms increase in difficulty as the weeks progress. The class can be sped up or slowed down depending on how quickly the student's learn. If all the students are able to solve the cube before the class is over, we can learn faster methods and have cube races. Students are expected to practice in between classes. The cube can be easily practiced while watching TV or listening to music. The class will be very interactive and each student should have their own cube to follow along on their own.

Week 1: Know the cube: learning the technical aspects of the cube.
Week 2: Solving the top layer.
Week 3: Solving the middle layer: learning the first algorithm.
Week 4: The final layer: solving the corners.
Week 5: The final layer: solving the edges.
Week 6: The final layer and an intro to other methods.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an accomplished educator specializing in History especially Ancient Greece an Rome. Since I've earned a Bachelor's with a double major in History & Classics (Ancient Greek and Roman culture), my favorite subjects to teach involve U.S. and World History and Geography. I have two years experience teaching 10th grade World History including AP courses.

The classes I teach mainly involve classical civilizations and how their politics, art, philosophy, and language affect modern concepts. My tutoring career includes Geometry, Algebra, Pre-Cal, and Physics so I enjoy instructing cross-curricular classes. For example: a class on Pythagoras which covers the historical background, geometry, and music. (coming soon)

I studied 2 years of Latin and 3 years of Greek. One of my favorite pastimes is finding Greek and Latin roots in modern English. I enjoy teaching my students Entomology or the story of how words developed into their modern forms. Instead of merely memorizing vocabulary we analyze the life of these words. It is important for students to learn the underlying concepts behind their words and mathematical formulas instead of rely on rote memorization.

I have 5 years experience as a professional chef so expect to see a few single session cooking classes from me.
