This course will detail how to write a proper literary analysis essay. For any piece of literature read in a high school English class, this course will give students a step by step overview with examples of how to write this type of 4-5 paragraph essay, plus review MLA formatting and literary devices. I will teach the class live on Zoom with class participation. Students may submit questions as I teach. A live PowerPoint slide presentation will be the notes students can take as they interact...
This class is taught in English.
My students will be able to hone their literary analysis writing skills. This type of essay is an art and these skills will improve with practice. Students will be able to gain a deeper knowledge of their specific piece of literature, whether short story, novel or poem by having the detailed notes I offer during this live course.
I am a certified and licensed ELAR 7-12 grade teacher. I currently teach English I and English III at a private school. I also have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism where I have written for various television programs and local newspaper companies.
This course is informative, with the student's ability to take notes during the live PowerPoint slide presentation. The student may have their English high school class novel, short story, poem, etc. with them as they take my course, to help with the understanding of each part of this essay.
Notebook and writing utensil for note-taking during the live course, plus the students' piece of literature they are currently working with in their English class (i.e. short story, novel, poem, etc.).
The students will be assessed informally by how they participate during the live course and how effectively they take their own personal notes. This can be assessed by my looking for students' knowledge of the material presented during each step of the literary analysis essay process.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
