Each class we will talk about some of the strategies used in solving equations. +Introduction +Take turns working problems. If you don't know how to right away don't worry! I'll show you example methods for any tough problems. Required for this class: -Pencil, paper, calculator, and ideally a stylus or touchscreen. Math communication and being able to write ideas clearly is important! - a working webcam. To abide by out school's rules please check in by camera at the beginning of class. After class has started you may choose to leave your camera on or off for the entire class. However, you may not leave your camera on and hold it by hand. Handheld cameras create distracting noise and shuffling sounds as well as disorienting visuals. - A clear sounding microphone. We are a team of dedicated STEM thinkers! When your microphone is on, please remember to speak clearly! We want to hear you! Microphones should be left muted until otherwise noted. Please stay responsible for your audio and video. Students may be purposefully muted or left out of part of the conversation if their equipment temporarily malfunctions. You can take that time to fix your equipment and then join right back in. It is disruptive to other students having to wait on technical problems.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Your professor has more than 14 years of experience tutoring in person and recently online. She has a degree in Chemistry & Biochemistry and has completed the coursework for a degree in Mathematics. She loves to share her passion for math and science and feels comfortable teaching a variety of topics, including algebra, vectors, geometry, trigonometry, rational expressions, probability, calculus, derivatives, integrals, AP and IB, biology, genetics, organic chemistry, and the math portions of SAT and test preparation.

This letter is to express our family's appreciation for the math tutoring you have provided to our daughter over the past several months.
Our daughter is a junior in the International Baccalaureate Program, which is academically challenging to begin with. While reading, verbal, and reasoning skills come to her relatively easily, math has always been challenging. Like many girls, she had come to see herself as "not good at math." She was frustrated in class, feeling lost and behind, and afraid to ask for help. That had started to lead her in a downward trajectory of waning confidence and achievement.
While the initial reason we sought you out was to improve her quantitative SAT scores, we has ended up with much more. (And yes, she significantly improved her test score!) She is for the first time comfortable in math, enjoying it, and looking forward to calculus next year.
She has moved up a full letter grade since beginning her work with you.
Her perception of herself has changed—she now sees herself as good at math. What had been a limiting factor in terms of her academic and career prospects has been turned around.
Anya, your low key, focused, encouraging approach has been the key to this outcome. Our daughter has really enjoyed working with you. Thank you so much for helping our daughter.
Very sincerely yours,
S.M.L.
When my son began tutoring with Anya he was failing 8th grade algebra. After seeing Anya he was able to make up significant ground and gain the understanding he was lacking. He continued with lessons into 9th grade. His understanding and ability to work through problems has increased so dramatically that he currently has an A- in 9th grade algebra.
Thank you, H.L.
I recommend Anya Doyle as a tutor for anyone studying mathematics. As an undergraduate in college, I wanted to apply for a Ph.D. program in the Humanities, but I dreaded the mathematics section of the GRE. I scored an abysmal 350 on the first practice exam I took, in the bottom 6th percentile of all test takers. I turned to Anya for help.
Anya guided me through nothing less than a re-introduction to all of the mathematical concepts tested on the GRE. We dealt with arithmetic, algebra, geometry, Cartesian graphs, probability, and a variety of other disciplines, all of which she eased me into deftly and patiently. Despite my aversion to mathematics, which I did not refrain from vocalizing on many occasions, she found a way to explain even those ideas that I resisted most stubbornly. When her first few attempts at explaining an idea did not get through, she would indefatigably seek and find a new approach, another model to help me understand. She remained good-natured at all times, although I was usually grumpy and annoyed. Most remarkably, no matter how many explanations failed to reach me, she could always think of a new tactic until I finally understood. Her natural gifts for teaching, including her extraordinary patience, make her an excellent tutor, both for difficult students like me and for those who share her enthusiasm for the material.
After weeks of tutoring with Anya, I took the official GRE and scored 700 on the mathematics section. My scores helped me gain admission to the Ph.D. program at the University of Chicago, where I am now in my first year of graduate study. I have been awarded a five-year fellowship to assist me in completing the program. I do not know if I could have achieved this level of success without Anya's help.

I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Anya Doyle, who has served as our daughter's math tutor over the past year. We first contacted Anya for SAT preparation. But we have seen the value in continuing to work with her as our daughter tackles the challenges of advanced placement calculus.
While reading, verbal, and reasoning skills come easily to our daughter, math had been a challenge. Frustrated in class, she felt lost and behind, and afraid to ask for help. That had started to lead her down a trajectory of waning confidence and achievement.
Working with Anya, she significantly improved her quantitative performance on the SAT, and went from the verge of dropping precalculus to earning an A in her last quarter. As mentioned, she is currently enrolled in advanced placement calculus. Along the way, her perception of herself has changed—she now sees herself as good at math. What had been a limiting factor in terms of her academic and career prospects has been turned around.
We are extremely thankful for Anya's ability to break math concepts down in a way that makes them easy to understand. Her method of teaching is clear, direct, and encouraging. She is personable, articulate, and professional without being intimidating. She accommodates Tess's learning style in a way that has proven effective. We have bumped up the tutoring to twice a week because the course load at this point is heavy and because Tess is also a nationally competitive junior rower who spends 15 hours a week in practice. Not everything is easy, and we are also thankful for the work ethic that Anya supports us in instilling.
I cannot imagine your finding a math instructor more highly qualified, dedicated to working with youth, or a better role model, particularly for girls and young women, than Anya Doyle. I truly wish that Anya had been there for me when I was in high school.

To whom it may concern,
It is with pleasure and great confidence that I recommend Anya Doyle for any teaching position.
In the beginning of the school year my daughter was struggling with both Pre-Calculus and Chemistry classes and felt completely overwhelmed by the material. I must admit that my daughter was more than a little reluctant to meet with a tutor. Eventually she agreed to give it a try once and it if she did not find the session helpful she did not have to continue. At the end of the first session I inquired whether the session was helpful and whether she wanted to set up another appointment, she said yes to both questions and we have seen Ms. Doyle weekly since. My daughter has maintained A's in both of these classes, much of which we credit to Ms Doyle's teaching. Ms. Doyle brings an enthusiasm to Math and Science that is refreshing and offers practical applications in her explanations. This has made a marked difference to my daughters understanding of the subjects.
I have been very impressed with the quality of teaching that my daughter receives and I am pleased to provide this input about Ms. Doyle.
Sincerely, A.M., MS, LMFT
To whom it may concern:
I am highly recommending Anya Doyle as an instructor for any student. She has been my son's chemistry instructor for the past year and has proved an exceptional instructor. She not only is able to teach students but also gives them the understanding and reasoning behind what is being learned. We feel very fortunate to have her as our son's instructor and would recommend her teaching skills to any other student.
Sincerely, S.A.
