40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will learn that the word empathy means putting yourself in someone else's shoes and trying to understand how they feel. We will use our imaginations to imagine we are someone else to help us be careful of the things we say and do. The topics covered will be discussions about what does not showing empathy, kindness and consideration look and feel like. The class will be structured in a read along with us reading the story - "Teach Your Dragon - How to Show Empathy". I will teach by giving different scenarios of ways to show empathy and kindness. Students will be welcomed to help read if desired, but not required. My teaching style is to help students engage in the lesson by sharing in discussions, asking and answering questions, and have a takeaway whether it's a craft or coloring sheet to help solidify what was taught. Students will interact by making a Kindness Bear Puppet, which will serve as a reminder for them to be kind and caring to others. No required experience or knowledge needed.
Learning Goals
Students will improve by being able to provide concrete examples of empathy, and be able to define empathy in their own words with examples from their life or the story.
