Students will be taken through the step-by-step process of marking, sewing, darning (if interested), and breaking in their pointe shoes. Students should not expect to have their shoes completely sewn by the end of class because everyone works at a different rate, but they will have the building blocks to complete the task on their own. I will help to demonstrate on a spare pair of pointe shoes. Students are encouraged to ask questions, and interact in conversation to make the classroom...
Students will learn the art of sewing pointe shoes through multiple approaches and ways to break-in new shoes.
If students are working with needles and scissors, they should be cautious not to poke or cut themselves. If they have a thimble, this could help to avoid this.
Students should have their pointe shoes, a needle and thread, scissors, tape, a pen or pencil and/or a notebook to take notes. Students are not required to have these materials and physically sew their shoes, but they may benefit from having them to make markings and ask questions.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
