In this class students will create a pillow with a pocket and handle by using a sewing machine they already have experience using.

Class Experience

This class requires beginner sewing machine knowledge: threading a machine, sewing straight lines, and sewing corners. If your student has done these techniques before he or she will be successful in this class. If your student requires this knowledge, please see my Introduction to the sewing machine class.

Fabric shears, seam ripper, pins
Extra sewing machine needle (80/12) in case of break
Iron and Ironing board
Press cloth or piece of cotton fabric to use as a press cloth
3 coordinating 1/2 yard woven cotton or woven home decor fabrics
All purpose thread to match fabric
1/8 yard light weight or medium weight interfacing
16" pillow form or polyester stuffing
Printer and Paper to print:
       Travel Pillow Directions
       Travel Pillow Pattern pieces
Tape and scissors to piece together paper pattern pieces
      *Access to YouTube to watch pattern and fabric preparation videos

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Parents, please ensure your student is placed in front of a table or desk where the sewing machine can be comfortably reached to ensure safety. Your student will need to be in an appropriate seat to be able to reach his or her foot pedal as well so they can safely start and stop the machine as needed.
