Class Experience

This class requires that your student already have beginner sewing machine knowledge: threading a machine, sewing straight lines, sewing corners, using the measurement lines. If your student has done these techniques before he or she will be successful in this class. If your student requires this knowledge, please see my beginner sewing machine class.

This class also requires the student to have materials ready before class starts and an adult or older sibling to help as needed (especially with the rice filling). This may require planning several days in advance on the part of parent and student to ensure the student can participate in class. Please watch for a message regarding preparation for the class 2 days before class starts

**Refund Policy
All One-Time classes have a standard refund policy: "Full refund until a week in advance, or within 24 hours of purchase (until class starts)."

CLASS OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 - Students will be able to layout and cut their fabric according to the pattern
Objective 2 - Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic straight line sewing, corners, and backstitching.
Objective 3 - Students will be able to pin an opening closed and edge stitch carefully to secure it by the end of class.

CLASS OUTLINE

Objective 1 - Students will ensure they have all materials needed. I will show them how to prepare their having for cutting and they will then do the task. I will explain what everything is in the pattern piece and show them how to lay it, pin it and cut the fabric from it.

Objective 2 - Students will read the first few steps of their instructions together. I will demonstrate how to execute those steps. Then students will display their basic knowledge of sewing by following the written instructions and sewing they're rice bag together using straight lines, turning corners and backstitching correctly. Students will be shown how to trim corners, turn their bags and sew the section lines on. Then they will do these tasks.

Objective 3 - I will demonstrate how to fill the rice bags, (students may need a helper to fill their bags as it can be tricky not to spill). I will then show them how to sew their bags closed and they will see them closed.

PLEASE SEE STUDENT SUPPLY LIST TO ENSURE YOUR LEARNER IS PREPARED for this class. The sound of the machines will be very distracting as well, so I will expect students to keep their microphones muted during their work time.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My passion for sewing goes hand in hand with teaching. Helping others learn the art of sewing either as a hobby or future career is my goal. I teach ages 7+ beginner classes, starting with threading a machine and building techniques to work toward sewing Independence through projects and samples. I have several private students who work on intermediate and advanced protects.

I previously taught high school sewing and fashion design for 7 years before stepping away to be a stay at home mom. I still love to share knowledge with others so teaching on Outschool has been a perfect fit

I believe people learn best through experience so my classes are project based. Each project has specific techniques that we will focus on mastering that can applied to future projects. Some projects require a prerequisite course to ensure specific knowledge is acquired for success.

A fun side note- Although I continue to teach, I also do custom clothing and alterations on the side. I've created fun costumes like Princess Peach and Princess Jasmine dresses and even a Zelda recreation!
