How to Record Songs and Sell Music
What's included

Do you like to write your own songs? Have you seen musicians play live, bought their album, and wondered… How do musicians make music? How do they record albums and sell them? If so, I created this class to help you understand the recording process. As a musician recording albums and playing live shows, I was able to put myself through college, build my own schedule, travel to exciting places, meet creative people, and learn business skills. I've recorded 5 albums. (Some recording sessions went better than others. We'll discuss why.) In this class, we’ll also cover: Deciding to record on your own vs. going to a studio (pros and cons) Choosing the best recording software and gear for your needs (and budget) How to set up your recording room while recording certain instruments (basic tips for recording guitar vs. recording piano) Vocabulary words specific to the recording process (producing, mixing, mastering) How and where to print physical copies of CDs or vinyl albums How and where to set up your music on distribution platforms (pros and cons to Bandcamp, Shopify, CD Baby, etc.) By the end of class, students will have been exposed to each of the topics above and more in a slideshow. I teach using a combination of visuals, lectures, and discussion. I also like to leave a lot of time for questions. (My husband is a sound technician at a large venue. I’m a musician - ask away!) Most of all, if this sounds enjoyable to you, I look forward to meeting you in class.
