Anyone can read notes of music once they learn how to play an instrument. Even a robot can read notes! But what if I told you that the end goal of most musical pieces is... to present MUSIC? What if I told you that the mildly annoying discipline of learning a piece of music through private lessons can finally start making sense and become more enjoyable to you and the audience members? This is a course in which we go beyond the stage of "learning the right notes in the right rhythm" and start making the music come ALIVE!! This is the art of interpretation, of musicality, and that is probably the most valuable tool that anyone in a musical role should have. How do we do this? We will analyze pieces of music that are easy to follow and can be related to our instrument/repertoire of interest, and we will dig out all of the factors and elements that can make the piece alive. The interesting part is that, just like any other science, we will be able to make educated cases. This is why the methodology of this course includes mostly uses elements from musicology, music appreciation, theory analysis, and concert performance.
Learning Goals
This art form influences almost every aspect of a musician. A listener becomes a better appreciator, a musician becomes a better performer, a composer becomes a better creative agent and arranger, and so on.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional piano player that has taught piano and music to children, adults, and the visually impaired for about 9 years, and have graduated with a double major in music (B.M. in Theory and Composition, and B.A. in Commercial Music - Piano) [Magna Cum Laude] from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. During my undergraduate studies, I had the honor of becoming one of the departmental tutors for all of the major music classes, and teach for a total of more than 460 hours to more than 60 different students. Also, I am a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, a two-time winner of the Orchestral Composition Competition at Trevecca Nazarene University, and recipient of the "Composer of The Year" award at the same school.
What never stops inspiring me is the opportunity to be able to share the things that I've learned about music and put my best efforts to make others experience the same joy as me. It has definitely been one of the most fulfilling roles I've ever had. The feedback that I've received from a number of my students has been surprisingly encouraging and supportive. It definitely makes me more aware of what my vocation means to them, my honest academic commitment, and how they are able to really understand my passion and be inspired by the actuality of it.
I love knowing people and I'm sure I will love getting to know you! Let's make that happen!
