Class Experience

In this 30-minute class, we will learn about gemstones and minerals. We will discuss the different kinds of gemstones, their matching minerals, how to identify those minerals, how minerals and gems are formed, and where they are found. We will focus on mineral identification using mineral properties such as: hardness, color, luster, and fracture, with examples given for each property. Students will learn how minerals and gems are identified, how they formed, and which minerals make the best gems.

I have both a Bachelor's of science and Master's degree in Earth Science, with a focus in paleontology, and have previously worked at a UNESCO fossil world heritage site.

30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
