Class Experience

In this class, students will learn how to hold the bow correctly. This position is one of the easiest to form bad habits without proper instruction. Bad habits are hard to break; taking this class can help you avoid that entirely! I teach the students step by step to hold the bow correctly and give them practice exercises to keep the bow hold while in motion. A good bow hold is the foundation to successful right hand technique and should not be overlooked. There is no previous experience or knowledge required, however I suggest taking my class "Parts of the Violin" first. This will make students familiar with some of the terminology I will be using in this class. I will demonstrate and explain the terminology in this class, so if you take this class first, you will not be lost. I look forward to meeting you!

Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Southeast Missouri State University
Hello! My name is Ms. Lindsay. I have a Bachelor of Music degree with emphasis in violin performance. I have been teaching for 16 years to people of all ages and have been playing violin and piano for 23 years! I have years of performance experience with the Southeast Missouri State Symphony and the University City Symphony Orchestra. I accompany children and coach them for solo and ensemble competitions. My favorite performance setting would definitely have to be playing in orchestra pits for musicals and operas! I've played in more orchestra pits than I can count. Some of my favorites are Into The Woods, Peter Pan, and Die Zauberflöte (aka The Magic Flute).

I teach private violin lesson for all levels as well as group classes for beginning violinists. I love to connect with my students, listen to their joys and concerns and give positive constructive critique to help them grow as musicians. In my private lessons, I tailor the lesson to the child's specific learning styles and interests. Want to learn classical music? Fiddle? Jazz? Pop? I've got you covered. I start my students with a classical foundation and then branch out into any style they might be interested in.

Besides teaching music, I love to perform with other musicians, cook, bake, crochet, listen to audio-books and learn new skills! I look forward to meeting you!

    For one-time classes:

    *Refund/Transfer Policy*
Per Outschool policy, there are no refunds for missed classes. I will be glad to transfer your learner to another section but require 24 hours' notice. This timing is necessary in order to fill the spot you are vacating. If I transfer you on short notice, I may not be able to fill your original spot, which means you are taking up two spots but only paying for one.
