Description

Class Experience

Students will learn how to maximize the value of their schooling resources and use those resources to achieve their own goals.
I have almost twenty years of experience teaching students how to use (literally turn) the school day toward their own vocational development/interests.
The teacher will expect students to take their new perspective on schooling, set a practical vocational goal, and use schooling to achieve that practical goal. As a result, regular reflective writing will be assigned. Feedback will be provided.
N/A: All supplies are provided within the course.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners' understanding about the nature of schooling will be assessed through conversation and participation within the course. Parents should watch for changes in how their scholars interact with the schooling experience at home. Feedback will be provided on students' reflective writing.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Three third-party sources (pre-approved by Outschool) are used in this course.

Nearpod is a teaching tool that allows me to embed surveys and other interactive experiences within a teaching presentation. No account is required to complete Nearpod lessons. Your scholar need only enter a 5-digit code to participate in the lesson. For more information on how Nearpod works, click here: https://nearpod.com/how-nearpod-works

Gimkit is a teaching tool that allows students to answer questions in a gaming setting. It is a good way to add laughter to challenging topics, and students only need a code to play. No account creation is needed. For more on Gimkit, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfkx69wIKMI

Quizlet is a source used for quick exposure to important vocabulary. There are six modes available within this tool--Flashcards, Learn, Write, Match, Test, and Gravity--that are useful for teaching key terms in a fast and engaging way. Your child will not need a Quizlet account to access a Quizlet vocabulary list, but she or she may login using Google if you desire an account.
