Hey Y'all, Can you believe that the number one fear people have is public speaking!? The second is death! Thankfully, after 10 years of teaching public speaking, I can tell you that anyone can do it and it shouldn't be the number one thing people fear! I have been a college professor for the last 10 years and I have been working with students on reducing their anxiety with public speaking and through everyday interactions. I have had students who started out crying when they stood up in class, all the way to someone who was a natural-born public speaker and everywhere in-between. I have honed my skills of helping students become more comfortable and more confident with their public speaking capabilities. The following is a breakdown of what will happen in the course: 1. What will be taught? -How to manage anxiety with public speaking 2. What topic will we cover? -internal and external coping mechanisms when feeling anxious. 3. How is this class structured? This will be a breakdown of how the class will be organized: 1. We will introduce ourselves and spend the first 15 minutes getting to know each other. 2. I will ask the students some questions to help guide me on what their needs are. 3. I will go over some basic strategies on a PowerPoint that can be used to help make students feel more comfortable. 4. We will practice these strategies so each student can understand how they work. 4. How will I teach this class? - I will use PowerPoint and interactive activities throughout the class. 5. What is my teaching style? - I have been teaching in college for 10 years and I have been in debate and public speaking for over 13 so I have learned through experience a variety of strategies to help students reduce their anxiety. I love being positive and upbeat while empowering students. 6. How much will learners interact with each other? -This will be a highly interactive class and will have students engaging with each other and myself often. 7. Are there any required experience of knowledge need? - No! This class is open to anyone who wants to work on reducing their anxiety

Hi, Y'all!
I have been teaching at Clemson University since 2012 where I am the Director of Debate and instructor. I start the Clemson Debate Society from scratch and over the years it has grown into one of the most well-respected programs in the country. We travel all of the United States and the world for competitions and training. I put everything I have into my students both in the classroom and on my debate and I love being able to watch students grow, learn, and challenge themselves through critical thinking.
Throughout the years I have helped to run some of the largest debate tournaments in the United States and the World to help promote critical thinking, argumentation building, and public speaking. I was recently the first woman to ever host the United States University Debating Championship which is the largest debating competition in the country.
In debate we cover every kind of topic you can think of and help students learn how to communicate effectively, respectfully, and with objective information. I have lead countless workshops on how to communicate about difficult topics such as gender, racial, social-economic, and cultural issues. These topics are difficult and complex but can and should be talked about so that students can start to learn and talk about these issues.
Below is a list of what I do as a current debate coach and some lists of accomplishments along with the places I have been invited to as a trainer to help promote and develop debate.
