Class Experience

In this 2 week course students will learn the step by step process of traditional publishing (how to get your book published by a publishing house). We will discuss topics such as:

Week 1-
how to write a query letter,
how to land a literary agent
why an agent is necessary for traditional publishing

Week 2-
how to get a contract with a publishing house
copyright laws/expectations, ISBN number protocol
and the pros/cons of publishing this route

My teaching style is interactive and immersive; a mixture of discussion and personalized topics based (what books are the students currently writing or interested in writing) as well as powerpoint and fact based.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their understanding of how the process of traditional book publishing works and how long it takes.
