Description
Class Experience
Students will create 2 drawings in this class-- one line drawing and one very detailed, accurate, well-shaded drawing from a photo. Students will learn how to use a ruler to draft in proportion. Students will practice drawing from a line drawing and from a photo by identifying positive and negative space, using a grid, and drawing object upside down. Students will create a 4-tone value scale and learn use it to shade a drawing.
I hold a Bachelors in Fine Art from Virginia Tech and a Masters in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University and am a former public school art teacher. I love teaching drawing, painting, sculpture and Photoshop to learners of all ages. There's a special place in my heart for creative works and the artists that make them, especially fantasy stories and narrative artworks, comics and graphic novels.
Students may need to take extra time working on their grid drawings on day 2 and/or 3, depending on the size and detail level and how fast they work.
Drawing materials to bring to ALL classes: Students may draw from their own drawing (Day 1) or photo (Day 2-4), but must have it ready and PRINTED at the beginning of class. Paper Pencil Eraser Ruler Optional: Colored pencil, Chalk pastel, Oil pastel, Charcoal for big work Illustrations or photos may be provided to draw; students will have the option to provide their own.
3 hours 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
