Have you ever drawn a map? I’m not asking if you’ve copied one. Have you ever created one out of your own imagination? Whether or not you have, you’re in for a treat with this course which will teach you to create regional maps, starting with a blank page and moving all the way to having a thriving system of towns, cities, docks, and so forth. I will share my screen as I draw a map myself and take students step-by-step through the creation process. If they can show me what they’re drawing I’ll be able to help even more. Otherwise, they can follow along, ask questions, and send me an image of their map after the class and I’ll give them pointers and feedback. Schedule: Day 1: Natural features: coasts, forests, lakes, rivers, and mountains (more if time permits) Day 2: Creature Features: towns, cities, forts, and roads (more if time permits)
Learning Goals
To spark students’ imaginations and to equip them to create their own, detailed maps for stories they write, games they play, or just for fun!
