Class Experience

I will be teaching students how to draw dolphins, step-by-step, using basic shapes and lines. Students will each come away with their own unique dolphin scene. Creativity is highly encouraged in my classes. My classes are very laid back. We will introduce ourselves, then get right to work drawing our dolphins. I like to use two cameras: one on me, and one on my hand drawing the picture. Throughout the lesson, we will talk about what we're doing, how to change things up, show each other our progress, and I help whenever needed. Learners should have a pencil and paper, and any coloring supplies they'd like to use when finished with their drawings.
Learning Goals
Students will begin to understand how to use basic shapes to create even a difficult looking drawing. Students will gain confidence in their drawing abilities

Teacher expertise and credentials
Utah Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education
Hi. My name is Christy Rand. I am teaching some individual step-by-step drawing classes for elementary students.
I have a BA in Studio Art from California State University, Sacramento, a Professional teaching credential in Secondary Visual Art, and am endorsed in teaching Kindergarten through 12th grades. I have spent the last 18 years teaching art to students, both in the classroom, in after school programs, and my own businesses. I most recently taught K-9th grades at a local charter school for ten years, and am now teaching middle school art online. I am pretty darn good at managing a crazy schedule, teaching all different ages, and "winging it" whenever needed.
I love kids. I love art. I love teaching. My philosophy about art and teaching is that it needs to be fun and enjoyable. I believe anyone can learn to draw and become an amazing artist, as long as they commit to putting in the effort and trying their best. My favorite thing is to see the smile on a student after they finish an artwork, knowing how proud they are. Art can be a huge boost to confidence, and I believe it is a powerful tool in a student's life.
I am the mother to three girls, three dogs, and a cat. I love to travel, garden, read, and spend time with my family. I am really looking forward to spending time with new students here on Outschool, and having all sorts of artistic fun together.
