How to Draw Anime-Manga Cats

This is a fun class specifically on how to draw Manga cats! There is such a variety that we will explore a different style of Anime-Manga- and even Chibi style Cat-(super cute). The idea for this class came from a parent/student request.

Class Experience

What will students learn: Students will learn to create a variety of Manga/ Anime style cats from basics to more specific Chibi, as well as serious poses, and a variety of eye styles. Students will learn using sight measurements to create accurate Manga style cats. We will use a step by step approach where I will demo live and have students work with me for live feedback on the how's of drawing Manga cats.

No background knowledge is required!- But a love of drawing cats!

Students will learn from samples, power points, and live demos in class from the instructor. Also, students will draw in class and share progress for feedback.

Week 1: We will focus on the head and body proportions of a basic Manga- Anime style cat. We will look at how the eyes are different than a traditional cat. We will also look at body proportions and compare to a traditional cat while focussing on how to adapt to Manga style.
Homework will be to create a more finished drawing from the practice in class.

Week 2: Share work completed as homework from week 1.Learn about: Chibi Style Cat ( which is also Manga related) we will explore the same concepts as above but use this to now create a Chibi style cat.
Homework will be to complete a Chibi style cat.

Week 3: We will explore eyes, and additional poses this week. Practice in class and try to create a variety of eye types and basics of a variety of poses.
Homework will be to create several poses, and eyes.

Week 4: Share work completed from week 3 with class. Class work will be to look at more serious and complicated cats styles of Manga. We will look at when to have a Manga cat with certain moods, and create the more challenging poses here.
Homework: Complete a more serious posed Manga cat, one that has more details and creates a mood for the cat.

Learner progress is evaluated each week, by giving verbal feedback within the classroom.
