Learners will have a fast and fun lesson in how to draw one of our favorite magical forest creatures, the unicorn. They will learn to draw a unicorn in two popular art styles, Folk and Kawaii. There will be a brief overview of what each of those art styles are and how they are used in our world today. Then we will chat about unicorns as I demonstrate how to draw these majestic creatures for my students. In the end of class, we will share our work for feedback. Learners will be invited to share a snap shot of their art which I will share on Instagram (with their permission) and they will be invited to come see the love their art receives there. Learners will be provided with a printable with the drawing instructions after class so they can draw their unicorns over and over while perfecting their style.

Supply List
Teacher will provide printables of the drawing instructions for learners to take with them. During class, they will need a pencil with eraser, a black pen for outlining, such as a Sharpie marker, and a blank piece of paper. We will draw both unicorns on a single sheet of paper, but it may be best for learners to have several sheets in case they want to start over.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

As a professional artist, my personal art style is “folk art.” This is a visually appealing form of storybook art that sparks the imagination of adults and children alike. I will never ever ever get tired of folk art! I love to combine folk art with elements of nature which offers me an amazing opportunity to teach science concepts while we learn art. Kawaii is a very different art style, but as a mom and teacher I have learned that kids in this age group tend to love Kawaii across the board. Using both styles offers them the ability to make artistic choices and to keep their brains energized and engaged with the creating process.Reviews
