Homework
Post-class, I will challenge students to find their own image of a cat or another animal and draw from it using the observational techniques they have learned as well as the shading techniques. After this, the learner/parent should send me an image of their completed drawing (even if they werent satisfied with it, I will be the only one to see it) and I will provide feedback and reminders to ensure that they are using and strengthening their observational skills. It is very important to me that learners are able to build off my lessons post-class rather than only having one amazing drawing and not knowing how to impliment those skills again. Please note that I will only do this with one drawing after class.

Class Experience

The prospect of drawing realistically can be incredibly exciting for young artists. For this one-time course, I will be prioritizing teaching learners to draw a realistic cat through tools and techniques that they will be able to implement again and again after this course. In order to accomplish this, we will be working from a photograph, which I will attach to the classroom page prior to class taking place. It is important that students either have a printout of this image or can access the image on a second device. With the image, I will teach students techniques to strengthen their observational skills. Through the drawing and shading process, I will teach students a shading technique they have likely never encountered at this age.

Dear Families,
I have loved and cherished art for my entire life and my hope is that I may be able to ignite or strengthen this love for art within my students. I want to extend to you and your child my warmest welcome into my virtual classroom.
My philosophy for learning in the art room revolves around differentiating instruction for each student’s individual needs. Coming together into the classroom, we each bring with us our goals, desires, our histories, our struggles, and our joys. Art allows us to express these aspects about ourselves and I believe it is important to do so. Through each of our projects, I will work with every individual learner to adjust the parameters to their interests and skill set while challenging them to always push forward.
Through my virtual classroom, I will be teaching art classes in painting, drawing, and even some sculpture for all ages and for all creative minds! We will work with a wide variety of materials, techniques, and analytical thought processes in each of my classes.
Through my undergraduate career, I received a BFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Sculpture and a BSE in K-12 Art Education, both in the spring of 2023. Beginning in the Fall of 2023, I will be pursuing a Master's in Fine Art in the highly ranked MFA program at Arizona State University. I have been teaching on Outschool since May of 2020 and have assisted artists in residence and students at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in Vermont during their summer 2022 stone carving workshops. I have created and sold a wide variety of artwork professionally, such as drawings, paintings, and sculptures, and have exhibited in a variety of art galleries. I am highly passionate about art and I strongly believe that when doing artwork, you are building a relationship with your materials and the creation itself. Throughout my time doing and practicing artwork, I have learned that art is a powerful force that can be meditative and help connect you with yourself and the values you carry.
With all this being said, I am happy to receive any comments, questions, or concerns through Outschool messaging. I look forward to working with your child and supporting them in every step of the process through their artistic endeavors!

Sincerely,
Amelia LaChance
