Learners will use graphic organizers to write two simple paragraphs about "How To Decorate A Christmas Tree” and "How To Make A Christmas Cookie”. This is a writing class I WISH I'd had when I was a young student.

Class Experience

**Learners should know how to write a complete sentence before attending this class.

Day 1-After a brief introduction to the topic and to each other, the group will brainstorm Christmas activities and treats. Then, the first step in procedural writing will be modeled as the group works together to fill out a graphic organizer using the topic, "How to Make A Christmas Cookie”. Students will learn how to use a graphic organizer as a prewriting tool. 
Students will learn about the "How To" or "procedural" style of writing.
Students will learn how to write a paragraph with transition words, and both topic and closing sentences.

Judy taught writing to kindergarten through fourth-grade students in public schools for over thirty years.  For almost a decade she had a small business that focused on literacy and creative writing.  She started collecting Christmas ornaments at the age of eighteen and now she has to have two trees to accommodate all of them during the holiday season.

Pencil, eraser, teacher provided worksheets.

1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
