Class Experience

US Grade 10 - 12
Intermediate - Advanced Level
In this ongoing class, students will be guided through the process of creating an Advanced Placement Portfolio, as required by the College Board. While students will work independently on their artwork outside of class, weekly critiques will focus on ongoing ideation to enhance their skills and direct their work. A digital Portfolio template will be provided to document student thinking and visual ideas, along with a digital Weekly Goals template to outline potential next steps. Techniques such as mind mapping will be used to improve students' critical thinking about their personal work.

This discussion-based class includes instruction delivered through critiques of student work, College Board examples, and notable artists whose work offers additional direction. Taught by an AP Art & Design College Board mentor instructor, students will gain confidence and understanding of the requirements to create a portfolio in any media that meets the standards.
Learning Goals
Students will gain an understanding of what is required to create artwork for a college-level portfolio. They will develop their skills in ideation, enabling them to work independently and become self-directed learners.
