Description

Class Experience

Students will learn:
-What SMART goals are
-Various types of goals (i.e., academic, social, intrapersonal, financial)
-How to create SMART goals
-Examples of SMART goals
-Example of poorly created goals and how to make them SMART
-How to create action steps to achieve SMART goals
I have a master's degree in strategic communications management, which quite literally means that I am a professional in strategy, planning, and organization. I am offering this class because I believe that it is incredibly important to create goals in one's life. Goals keep us motivated and productive, which is beneficial to people of all ages and backgrounds. I believe that the greatest problem that most have with achieving their goals is that they do not create SMART goals with small, specific, do-able action steps. By providing my students with the information and practice they need to create SMART goals, I am providing the foundation they need for success.
Homework will be executing the small, specific action steps that students created during class. Taking this action steps will help students achieve the SMART goal they created in class.
 3 files available upon enrollment
I will provide the following handouts to my students: 1) Preview: How to Create and Achieve Goals (to be read before class starts); 2) Goal tracker 3) Review: How to Create and Achieve Goals (to be used as a refresher document after class ends). OPTIONAL: Students can choose to purchase a weekly planner if they want to use one for creating their own SMART goals and action steps.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students may assess their learning by observing whether or not their planned action steps allowed them to achieve the goal they created. If not, then students are encouraged to adjust the action steps they must take in order to achieve their goals.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
It would be beneficial for students to have their parents , guardians, or other household members check in with their learners regarding action step completion. Parents, guardians and loved ones could also openly discuss their own goals to their children, as well as use motivational phrases when speaking to their children about their goals (i.e., "You are so smart; I know you will be able to achieve this goal!")
