This 8-week class introduces elementary students to six different types of poetry. Young learners will read poems, write their own poetry, and present their poetry to the class. We will be studying couplets, cinquain, haiku, limericks, shape poems, and acrostic poems. Each week we will focus on a different type of poetry. Some of the poetry styles will require two weeks of study. Each class will follow the same format: -The students will be introduced to the type of poetry. -We will read...
Students will be able to create poetry. They will learn to develop their own voice through their writing. They will learn to use proper grammar and spelling, as well as choose strong words to convey their ideas. They will also learn to organize their writing. Additionally, students will gain confidence when speaking in front of a group of peers.
Most of the worksheets will be completed in class. If we run out of time, students will need approximately 10-15 minutes to complete it after class.
