Class Experience

**This course is perfect for young artists wanting to learn the basics or wanting to further their knowledge in acrylic and abstract painting**

**lessons are pre-recorded videos/demonstrations for learners to watch on their own

❗❗ABSTRACT ART: art that expresses a visual language or world using shape, form, color and line❗❗

Want to be able to create your own visual world using acrylic paints?

Artists will learn the basics of acrylic paints, create five original abstract artworks, learn techniques to apply to any style of painting, and will gain an understanding in composition, attracting the viewer's eye, as well as staying motivated on those hard art block days.

Each week, artists will watch short lectures and video clips of painting demonstrations modeled by the teacher. Artists are expected to submit photos of their works to be critiqued by the teacher. Artists also have the opportunity to comment on other learner's works to help encourage one another on their own art journeys.

Schedule:

🎨Week #1 - What is Abstract Painting? An introduction to supplies, your workspace, color theory, and start your first abstract painting!
🎨Week #2 - Composition #1: learn "one object 100 ways," balance, and create an abstract line painting
🎨Week #3 - Composition #2: learn about focal points, your creative inspiration, and create an abstract landscape
🎨Week #4 - Composition #3: learn about object painting, contrast, more mark-making techniques, and create an abstract shape painting

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from The Master's University
Hi, I'm Teacher Monica (they/them) - a musician and artist. I am passionate about teaching, traveling the world, and creating art.

Currently I'm a middle and high school choir and fine art teacher at a Waldorf school, but I also have experience with teaching early elementary aged learners in private and small group music and art classes.

As an experienced educator, I believe that every child can become a musician and artist. All learners deserve a well-planned, differentiated arts education. I am an energetic and passionate teacher and do my absolute best to model to my students so they have an example of what having a passion for learning and creating art or music looks like.

I have been teaching music for 20 years and received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2014. This helped me achieve a firm grasp on the art of teaching music in both a group or private lesson setting. I also learned so many tools on how to study, read, and analyze music, which helps me guide my students into being confident performers and analyzers of their pieces.

Fun facts:
I have three cats named Atoka, Calcifer, and Bagels.
I have a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
