Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
Reading is an important skill needed to succeed in life. This class will offer strategies to help struggling students, emergent readers, and ESL students become proficient emergent readers. This class provides students with reading activities that will help them get to the next level of reading.
The students will have ample opportunities to practice reading skills taught in my lesson. I will focus on each students needs and monitor their progress throughout the class. I will also help them work on skills needed to progress to the next reading level. The students will actively use the reading skills taught in my lesson and confer with the other students in the group.
I will begin each reading lesson with vocabulary study and sight word introduction. We will also learn about decoding and phonics to help us read. The books I will use will build confidence since they are simple text. Then I will model the strategy using the book and prompt students to integrate their reading processes to their reading. The students will read silently and we will engage in conversation about the text and think about all the strategies we used. To end our lesson we will work on more word work.
The goal of this class is to help students develop strategies and apply them independently when reading.
I believe that all children can be successful in learning how to read. I want to motivate the students with important reading strategies and give them the confidence they need to read. I want the students to feel excited and less anxious about reading
