In this one day course students will learn how to analyze a math word problem by using a four step process. We will begin the class by using an ice breaker to get to know each other. I will explain the four step process whole group to model for students. The four step process will include: -Identifying the given operation to solve looking for key words and concepts -Identify the numbers and units within the problem -Solve the problem correctly -Answer the word problem questions in a completed...
Students will be able to solve word problems by analyzing and following a four step process. Students will be able to identify the specific mathematical operation when analyzing the story problem. Students will be able to share their thinking and explain how they solved the mathematical story problem utilizing the four step process.
Homework will be given as optional for students who would like more practice.
I will provide the pages that we will work on during class to print out. These are not required, but could be helpful for those who need that visual piece. Otherwise all you would need is 4-6 sheets of paper for our class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will be providing informative assessments while class is going on and supporting as necessary. I will provide notes to families about observations and comments if applicable.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
