How to Activate Prior Knowledge- May the Force Be with You! (Grade 5)

In this course we will focus on activating prior knowledge and what that language arts concept means. Whenever you read, you bring what you already know about the subject to the text. You use prior knowledge to make sense of the new information you read.

Description

Class Experience

I have been teaching English Language Arts and Reading for six years now. I have my Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with a focus on English.  I am Reading Endorsed for all grade levels and ESOL endorsed as well. I also have a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership and a second Master's in Reading. I have a deep passion for teaching and get excited about reading. I want to share that excitement with my students and encourage them to get excited about reading as well. 
4 page handouts will need to be printed prior to the start of class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
