"I answered C. because it just sounds right..." ...That's the most common phrase I hear when tutoring for the Grammar & Language section of the SAT. The problem is that intuition can't tell you how to answer some of the most common SAT questions, like whether you need a comma or a semicolon to connect two independent clauses. I've created this class so that students can learn the fundamental grammar rules and writing techniques that lead to higher scores on the Digital SAT*. In class, we'll discuss the week's topic (see schedule), complete practice questions, and play games related to the content. Students will leave every class with extra materials designed to help them finally memorize grammar rules (like when to use a comma) and writing techniques (like parallelism). ... The Schedule Week of January 26 Grammar: Sentence Structure and Formation + Verb tense and Agreement Resources: Guide to Answering Digital SAT Grammar Questions PDF Week of February 2 Grammar: Punctuation and Sentence Clarity (Linking Independent Clauses) Week of February 9 Grammar: Punctuation for Dependent Clauses and Extra Information Week of February 16 Grammar: Transition Words + Parallelism, Redundancy Week of February 23 Grammar: Rhetorical Synthesis Questions *Please note that the Digital SAT has one English section. This class will help students with the grammar questions (specifically the skills the College Board calls Standard English Conventions and Expression of Ideas), which make up 46% of the questions in the English section. The other skills (related to reading comprehension) are taught in a separate class.
