Class Experience

This one-time class will show students how to approach, plan, execute, and complete simple and complex tasks by following a customizable and organic step-by-step process of getting 'from point A to point B.'

This approach has been developed over my twenty-five plus years of working with students in one-on-one and group settings in a variety of subjects, including study skills and habits. It applies as much to studying for tests, taking tests, completing school projects and homework, etc., as it does to accomplishing personal hobby projects. The process also guides students on how they can get more out of the time they spend on the task than simply completing it.

The successful application of this process is based on understanding that relative levels of self-doubt in one's capabilities and anxiety about the quality of the finished product are normal occurrences and that they can not only be managed but turned into productive energy and steps to achieve one's goals.

All students will be given a handout with the steps of the process to use as a template for future reference.

Hello and welcome to my Outschool Classes page!

You are in the right place if you feel ANY of these apply to you:

- I want to become a better communicator
- I want to make the most of my ability by accessing both my critical AND creative thinking
- I want to overcome the normal doubts and fears that stand in my way of taking on challenging tasks and projects
- I am thinking about writing, directing, acting, or public communications as a potential career

I am excited to engage with students on three topics I am passionate about: how we communicate with our fellow human beings (and with ourselves), how we integrate critical thinking with creative thinking and intuition, and how we move from wanting to doing. Whether in your career or in your personal life, being a good communicator and a creative problem-solver are skills we cannot do without in the 21st century. And we will improve these skills through fun, engaging, and productive classes on storytelling, writing, acting, logic and biases, learning habits, and more - we will find out how to overcome fear and doubt when taking on any project and discover a secret: that technical craft and creative freedom are... actually BFFs! (so, I guess no longer a secret)

Professionally, I am Creative and Executive Director of a multimedia think tank that develops and produces narrative, documentary, literary, and educational projects. I am a screenwriter, director, and producer. I have also been teaching, mentoring, and coaching students for the last 25 years, with a tutoring business and at the university level - from middle school to college and beyond, from biology/chemistry, to storytelling and acting, to learning habits and standardized tests; I have taught workshops and seminars in movement and performance both domestically and abroad. I have and continue to love teaching all of it because I continue to love learning. I have a BFA in Theater and Dance, an MBA in Accounting, and finishing a second MA in Statecraft and National Security Affairs. And the best part of this array of interests is how it allows me to give students a wider perspective on how whatever they are learning is never wasted - that everything has a connection to something else.

When teaching, I am a fan of guiding the students to reach learning conclusions through doing and active thinking rather than lecturing conclusions at them. Our sessions are, therefore, very engaging: think Socratic Method meets Lab work.

So, if you're up for some fun and well-spent learning time, I look forward to seeing you in session!
