What's included
1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This class will cover fundraising and letters sent to corporations and foundations for donations of products and funds (money). We will learn to communicate with the nonprofit and ask if we can do a fundraiser. It will include a written example of a fundraising letter which we will analyze. We will also pretend to interact with a store manager. We will learn how to find leads for funding sources. We will discuss what makes a good target for asking for money. We will also discuss individual donor activities such as online fundraisers and silent auctions, where you can use some of the same text used in the letter for asking for donations from people. We will have a great deal of questions and interaction between the teacher and the students. Learners will see a PowerPoint as well as discuss the topics. They will also discuss their interests in specific causes. My teaching style is relaxed. I like to use a lot of humor in class. This class will not feature political fundraising especially as these are not the tools one uses for getting political donations. Learners should be familiar with the basics of how to write a letter.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to ask a nonprofit if they are willing to collaborate, understand the components of a letter to a business to ask for donations, will role play to learn how to make an "ask," and will learn about the fundraising environment they live in, as well as how to find funders, and utilize online tools for fundraising.
