Class Experience

Colleges are looking for a more detailed picture of each individual and they are finding it on social media. A curated social media profile can also help you with scholarship applications. You can manage your digital presence so it works favorably for you and your future.

In this class, we will discuss what colleges are looking at with your digital presence then perform a quick hands-on audit of the social media you are already using and move into tips and social media strategy to curate your profiles going forward.

Learners will need to have at least one social media profile.

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to curate their social media profiles so that they are favorably looked at by college admissions and scholarship boards.

Hello!

I'm Sarah Maynard and I am so glad we have connected on Outschool!

Each of us has a story to tell. Some times we have many stories! The internet is the newest way to tell our stories, but there are many ways to share them: books, videos, and pictures to name a few.

The topics I am passionate about center on helping you tell the story you want to tell. These classes include topics like: storytelling and creative writing, using social media to aid in college admissions, how to write a novel, why you need a website, graphic design, and basic netiquette and internet safety.

I have worked with kids for almost 20 years as a program coordinator and teacher. I love taking difficult things, like the intricacies of the digital world, and breaking them down into understandable points. I received my masters in Digital Marketing Communications from West Virginia University (Go Mountaineers!) in 2021 which built on my BA in Communications for Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!). I have always been interested in the ways we communicate and I love teaching how to use these new digital tools. I am the founder and CEO of THE START EFFECT, a digital presence education company that teaches teens and young adults, as well as the adult cheerleaders in their life, how to navigate the digital world and manage their online presence in a safe, healthy and beneficial way.

In addition to being a digital presence educator, I am a children's book writer and illustrator, kids yoga teacher and graphic designer. I love to learn! (You probably do to if you are here on Outschool!) Right now, I am learning how to play the ukulele and I love Procreate and digital art tutorials!
