1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time class, the students will learn about how different animals see the world compared to humans. They will learn about dogs, geckos, snails, giant clams, and jumping spiders through a picture presentation and discussion. We will learn and discuss how they see different (cones and rods, lenses, sensitivities to different waves of light, ranges of colors, and peripheral vision). We will compare this to how a human's eyes work. We will then experience what it is like to see like these different animals by viewing sliding pictures that show how we see compared to these animals. They will then do two experiments to see like animals. #1: Experience what it is like for animals with eyes on the sides of their head using a piece of paper. #2: See what it is like to see like a lizard/gecko using toilet paper rolls.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how 5 different animals see differently than humans through viewing a presentation, seeing examples, having a discussion and doing two experiments.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Mary Clayson and I love to teach! I will have a broad range of classes: arts, music, math, social studies, science, and technology. I have my Masters in Education with an emphasis in Art Education and I have been a teacher since 2005. I have taught many different ages (2nd, 5th, 6th, and 7th grades) and I currently am an ESL teacher as well.I love the outdoors, especially rock climbing. I have four children who I love to teach and play with. I am constantly wanting to increase my knowledge of education and help more students. I believe all children deserve a great education and to enjoy that education. Learning should be a place of safety and enjoyment, as well as a place to increase knowledge. All students need to be taught in a way that will help them to reach their potential. Each child is valued and needs to feel loved.
