Description

Class Experience

Students will learn how to draw, through a series of steps. These steps include, layered-coloring, texturing, shadow and highlighting, as well as digital sculpting. These steps will take them through a process of hand-drawing/painting, making selections, and using blending modes, with layers, in Procreate.
As a California native, Bryan Niven grew up on the coast, surfing and swimming in the ocean, and developed a passion for marine animals early on. Mr. Niven is an award-winning professional/commercial artist and photographer, selling his first art piece when he was only seven years old! In addition to his artistic accolades, he has taught thousands of students, from elementary age, to seniors, with nearly 95% positive feedback. Mr. Niven has a natural ability to relate to, and motivate people of all ages, and is determined to help others develop and use their talents for good!
Continue to practice after this class, and show someone else what you’ve learned, to help retain the information. Look for more How About That? classes as they are added!

It is recommended that students have an iPad, and compatible stylus. Though an iPad compatible with the Apple Pencil is highly recommended, it is not needed, as long as they have a stylus, or are very comfortable with advanced finger painting/control. On the iPad you will be using for class, click the “Procreate” link above, and scroll down to “compatibility“, and it will let you know if your iPad is compatible. If you want to use/purchase Apple Pencil on your iPad, click the link labeled “Apple Pencil”, and verify your iPad is listed as compatible, and whether the first or second generation Apple Pencil will work. The other styli listed, (from Adonit), are great options, that work with almost any iPad, as well as Procreate. If you have any questions or concerns about styli, Procreate, and/or iOS devices for this class, please let me know. Please also note that Procreate is also available for iPhone, with the listed styli from Adonit, and that a student could take this class using an iPhone and one of the stylus options suggested.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Though this class meets once, there will be other classes in the How About That? series, and the students knowledge, creativity, and skill will progress as the lessons and projects advance. They will also be learning about each of the subjects they draw.
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
