This 75-minute class teaches how to use Procreate on the iPad, to draw a humpback whale. Sketching, inking, coloring, trimming, using layers, and dynamic lighting will be covered. Students will also learn about the humpback as they draw.

Students will learn how to draw, through a series of steps. These steps include, sketching, inking over the sketch, coloring, trimming, and sculpting, using light and shadow. These steps will take them through a process of drawing, erasing, making selections, transforming, and using layers, in Procreate.
As a California native, Bryan Niven grew up on the coast, surfing and swimming in the ocean, and developed a passion for marine animals early on. Mr. Niven is an award-winning professional/commercial artist and photographer, selling his first art piece when he was only seven years old! In addition to his artistic accolades, he has taught thousands of students, from elementary age, to seniors, with nearly 95% positive feedback. 1 file available upon enrollmentStudents will need an iPad, and stylus. Though an iPad compatible with the Apple Pencil is highly recommended, it is not needed, as long as they have a stylus. On the iPad you will be using for the class, click the “Procreate” link above, and scroll down to “compatibility“, and it will let you know if your iPad is compatible. If you want to use/purchase Apple Pencil with your iPad, click the link labeled “Apple Pencil”, and verify your iPad is listed as compatible, and whether the first or second generation Apple Pencil will work. The other styli listed, (from Adonit), are great options, that work with almost any iPad, as well as Procreate. If you have any questions or concerns about styli, Procreate, and/or iOS devices for this class, please let me know. Please also note that Procreate is also available for iPhone, with the listed styli, and that a student could take this class using an iPhone and one of the stylus options provided from Adonit.
