US Grade 7 - 10
Students will learn how to identify, handle, and dispose of common household hazardous materials safely. We will cover how to read and understand chemical labels using the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), the different types of hazards, and best practices for handling and disposing of hazardous materials in the home. What topics will you cover? Introduction to Household Hazardous Materials: What they are and where they’re commonly found. The Globally Harmonized System (GHS): Understanding labels, hazard classifications, and safety symbols. Safe Handling and Disposal: How to properly use, store, and dispose of hazardous products. Emergency Procedures: What to do in case of spills or accidents. The class will begin with a brief introduction and overview of hazardous materials, followed by an interactive segment on how to read GHS labels. We will then discuss safe handling and disposal methods, and finally, wrap up with a Q&A session. A take-home worksheet will be provided to reinforce the learning through practical application. This class will be taught through an engaging lecture format that includes visual slides, interactive discussions, and real-life examples. I will guide students through each topic using clear explanations. I take an interactive and approachable teaching style, breaking down complex topics into easy-to-understand concepts. My focus is on making the material engaging, using practical examples and relatable scenarios to ensure students grasp the importance of hazardous materials safety.
