Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Have you ever heard an announcer at a horse show call the riders to "rack on" and wondered what that meant? Intrigued by saddle seat riding? Enamoured by the fine elegance of the Saddlebred horse? Come learn about the traditions in this unique discipline. Breeds such as Saddlebreds, Morgans, and Hackney ponies will be highlighted. Take a look at the cutback saddles used for saddleseat riding, and admire the colorful browbands on the bridle. Explore the traditions present at shows, from the well dressed Ring Master to the live organ music. This class will follow a lecture and discussion format using pictures and slides. Participation among learners is encouraged, but not required. The instructor grew up riding saddleseat, and still participates in the discipline with her American Saddlebred.

I live on a farm with lots of animals, where I follow my passion of training feral mustangs. I am a certified horseback riding instructor and enjoy teaching others to ride. When my schedule allows, I judge horse shows. I actively compete and am a title holder in dog sports such as agility, nosework, obedience and rally. I am studying to become an agility judge with the UKI. Currently I also work in a canine rehab center, where I lead hydrotherapy sessions and am a certified laser technician. Another one of my hobbies is writing, and I am a published author of non-fiction and poetry. I'm excited to share my knowledge with others!
