In this 8-week course, students will engage in an interactive game to learn all about owning a horse. During this game, students will learn about budgeting, horse care, enhancing writing skills, responsibility and the joy of horses.

An 8-week online class where YOU own a horse! You will learn about all that goes into horse ownership and learn alongside other horse lovers as you tackle different adventures with your horse friends. 

Let's buy a horse! Students will learn about what it takes to own a horse by entering into an interactive competition with other students. During the first six weeks of this course, students will develop skills of budgeting, investing and learning about proper horse care. During introduction, students will write about what they think will be difficult and then will pick their career to launch themselves into "buying" a horse. 

Introduction to the Course

Horses have been purchased! You are now a proud horse owner but, there is more to ownership than having one. Students will learn about the next steps of owning a horse such as, finding a boarding place, buying feed, travel cost to bring the horse home and if any veterinary expenses are needed. Students will being designing their budget for owning their horse.  

Bringing Your Horse Home

Your horse has been home for two weeks and now, different events occur. These events can be related to veterinary, invitations to events or training opportunities. Each student will have an event to navigate and they will decide the choice for how they should move forward. Each choice will be educational for how it may affect them and their horse.

The First Scenario

Congratulations you have owned your horse for a month! That means that it is time to do routine care on your horse. Students will choose between options for farrier work and then will access their income as they budget for boarding costs. 

One Month of Owning a Horse

Another scenario comes up, based upon your horse's health and happiness, students may unlock new levels of possibilities to adventure into. Reflections of choices made will be a topic of conversation for other students to learn from for in the future with their horses. 

Second Scenario

Who won? This is the final class where students will play the interactive game of owning a horse. After completing the round for the second month of owning a horse, a winner will be selected. The next two weeks that will follow will be for creating a more developed budget, reflecting on skills learned and writing a persuasive assignment for owning a horse.

During this game of owning a horse, we began learning about a budget. Now with the knowledge you received from the game, let's learn how to make a quality budget of owning a horse so, that you can best understand what makes a quality budget and what to avoid.

Creating a Budget

Students will review what they learned from this course by writing a reflection. Then they will use their persuasive writing skills to persuade of why owning a horse would be of a benefit, how they prove their responsibility and what dynamics of budgeting would come into play when owning a horse.
