Horse Hangout Part 1: Horse Social Class & Club (3-Pack of Classes for Age 9-13)

Are you interested in horses? I know I am! Horses are one of the most popular animals around the world. I’m excited to combine my nearly 20 years of teaching in a classroom with my experience as a former riding coach and horse owner to create this fun and social ‘Horse Hangout’ three-pack class.

This inclusive class is for anyone who loves horses – riders and non-riders are welcome. Our time will be spent doing fun horse-related activities, learning interesting horse-facts and discussing/sharing learners’ horse stories and knowledge. 

The first part of the class is teacher-led which includes a short greeting, one to two fun horse-related activities and then ‘Fun Fast Facts’ about a horse topic to learn more about horses. The rest of the class is for sharing and discussion. Students are provided with a number of fun prompts such as: 'Would you rather ride a Shire draft horse or a miniature pony?' and several options for discussion to choose from like talking about different styles of riding, breeds of horses or simply why they find horses so interesting. While a number of discussion topics are provided, much of this time will be reflective of the interests of the students in the class.   

Students will enjoy the variety of approaches this class uses such as slides, audio clips, games, video clips and of course discussion! (Students will receive a horse-related activity handout for each class that they can complete during or after the class…if they would like.) Since this is a social class, students are strongly encouraged to have their cameras turned on and the teacher will set an encouraging and fun tone for the class. I am a very supportive teacher and encourage lots of participation and fun in my classes.

Class One: Horse-related activities = Three Things Shared & Visual Memory Game and ‘Fun Fast Facts’ about Horse Size.

Class Two: Horse-related activities = Name that Sound & Would You Rather and ‘Fun Fast Facts’ about Horse Types.

Class Three: Horse-related activities = Give me Five & Trivia and ‘Fun Fast Facts’ about Horse Hooves.
