In this one time class horsey kids are invited to gather together to talk all things horses while making a blanket and halter for their model horses. Whether they have Schleich (like in class photo) or Breyer, they will be designing a blanket to fit any model horse. First I will show learners how to make a pattern so in the future they can design their own unique blanket patterns. Then, we'll transfer our pattern onto fabric or felt and we can even add a name. Adding trim with glue is optional depending on the look learners want. Second we will make a halter out of narrow ribbon and jump rings. These accessories can be made with either hot glue, or white glue, but if you use white glue you'll need clips to hold your item while the glue dries, and if you use hot glue...you need to be very careful. As an added bonus I'll show learners how they can use any rope to make a halter-and in a pinch a hackamore-that will work on real horses as well as model horses.
Learning Goals
To design a pattern, and transfer it to fabric, requires problem solving skills as well as a comfort in being willing to make a mistake and try again if it doesn't work. On a practical level learners will learn to make horse accessories for one model horse that they can repeat for all their model horses of all different sizes.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I was a horsey girl. I didn't grow up in the city, but I didn't have my own horse either. I spent all my spare time and energy on all things horsey and when I was 18 years old I left home to pursue the dream I had since I was 3 years old: To become a professional horseback rider....and I did. I rode horses professionally for almost 10 years. I understand horse girls at the deepest level-just ask my two horse-passionate daughters. I have taught horse crafts and horse craft camp to many horse loving learners and I'm now excited to offer this class on Outschool.
