Learning Goals
What can be expected in each meeting:

The weekly class operates as a flexible club that welcomes new members at any time, without progression, and with unique meetings each time.

Sessions kick off with icebreaker questions, “how did your week go?”, interactive segments, themed conversations, and various topics covering horse care and lifestyle.

The class features engaging discussions, horse history insights, entertaining activities, trivia, horse-related memes, storytelling, and lots of laughter.

Additionally, there will be discussions on horse-related media like movies and games.
Whether a student is a novice or has years of experience in riding, follows English or Western riding styles, or has access to a horse, everyone is welcomed and supported in their horse journey.

The class's success is attributed to the wonderful students who help foster an environment that keeps the horse community engaged.

The class not only focuses on learning but also on sharing personal stories and experiences, fostering connections among individuals passionate about horses.

There is no prerequisite knowledge required, and participants are encouraged to suggest topics for discussion to shape the class content.

The class operates on a subscription basis with weekly charges, which can be canceled anytime.

The class is tailored to the students' needs, ensuring personalized attention and a smaller group setting to nurture a supportive learning environment.

With a relaxed approach to teaching, the goal is to maintain a fun and pressure-free atmosphere, steering clear of unnecessary stress you can find in traditional club settings.

Parental Guidance
I have a few general rules that I like to abide by so our classes run smoothly: 1. Avoid interrupting the teacher/other students. I know internet lag can cause overlap, so try to make sure the other person is done talking first to help mitigate this. Raising your hand if you have a question or comment also helps keep things orderly and gives everyone a chance to talk. 2. Participate in class in a quiet room, if possible. If there is background noise, please mute yourself unless you are speaking. 3. Per Outschool policy, parents must stay off camera and not interact with the class (this includes posing as the child in the chat and messaging functions, telling the child what to say or do, challenging/asking/interacting with the teacher). Of course, if your student is having technical difficulties you can help them. I am more than happy to interact with parents outside of class time via Outschool’s private messaging system. 4. Do not distract the class by abusing drawing tools in Zoom. 5. Use the chat box for things relevant to class. I check it every time that it is used and if it is for goofing off it takes away time from other students who are paying attention. 6. Per Outschool policy, all students must turn on their cameras so I can confirm their identity for safety reasons. Once I have confirmed this, I have no problem with them preferring to keep the camera off. 7. If you are having internet connectivity issues, please let me know. 8. If the student will be absent for a class, please let me know ahead of time if possible so I can adjust the class accordingly. 9. Students that are misbehaving get two warnings, then the third offense will result in the child being put in the Zoom waiting room until the class has concluded. No refunds will be given if this has occurred. 10. In this class, learners must not promote or normalize risky behavior in horses to excuse their mishandling of equines. For any inquiries/comments regarding classes, please message me privately so I can do my best to address your needs. Thanks!

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Associate's Degree from Hawkeye Community College
I have more than ten years of experience in the equine industry, including professional, academic, and recreational involvement, and I also own a horse. I understand the feeling of not having horses and being ostracized as a child due to my interests and my struggles with undiagnosed ADHD. Therefore, I can truly empathize with those facing similar circumstances. My personal mission is to make horses and horse community accessible through this club, while breaking the club cliche stereotype by providing a warm and welcoming environment.
